Protector of the Barbados Wetlands Trust Appointed to UWI Centre for Biosecurity Advisory Committee
Bridgetown, Barbados – 26 November 2025 – The Barbados Wetlands Trust and Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary proudly extend heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Anthony J. Da Silva, Protector of the Barbados Wetlands Trust and Executive Chairman of Sanctuary Recreation Ltd, on his appointment to the Advisory Committee of the Centre for Biosecurity at The University of the West Indies (UWI).
Mr. Da Silva’s appointment reflects his longstanding commitment to sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and regional leadership in public–private collaboration. As Protector of the Trust, he has been instrumental in advancing initiatives that safeguard Barbados’ last remaining red and white mangrove forest and largest wetland ecosystem at Graeme Hall, a RAMSAR designated site of international ecological significance and a cornerstone of national biodiversity.
Through his stewardship, the Barbados Wetlands Trust continues to strengthen and expand its role in promoting conservation, environmental education, and sustainable tourism. His inclusion on the UWI Centre for Biosecurity Advisory Committee underscores the alignment between national ecological preservation and the Caribbean’s growing emphasis on biosecurity, food safety, and ecosystem health.
“Mr. Da Silva’s vision for a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Barbados aligns perfectly with the mission of the Centre for Biosecurity,” said a spokesperson for the Barbados Wetlands Trust. “We are confident that his voice will help shape strategies that protect both human and environmental health across the region.”
This prestigious appointment highlights Barbados’ leadership in advancing science-based, sustainable policy and its commitment to protecting the natural assets that define the nation’s identity and resilience.
